Tsundoku (積ん読)

I’ve been buying books faster than I can read them for years. Turns out there’s a Japanese word for exactly this — tsundoku (積ん読), the habit of letting books pile up unread. It comes from tsunde-oku (to stack things for later) and dokusho (reading). I don’t know why, but having a word for it makes me feel slightly better about the growing stack on my shelf.
